Learn to make Izakaya inspired snacks from scratch, with Gyoza, crispy Karaage and chilli-salted Edamame.

Inspired by Japan’s Izakayas – informal bars where drinks are served alongside plenty of small dishes to share, this hands-on Japanese cooking class is all about the kind of food you’ll want to make again and again.

Over three hours, you’ll learn to make Gyozas, including preparing the filling, folding and cooking them. Next up is Karaage, Japanese fried chicken with a beautifully crunchy coating, followed by chilli-salted Edamame.

You’ll make everything on the menu, working in pairs, so this isn’t a case of making one dish and contributing it to a group meal. You’ll get hands-on with every recipe and leave knowing how to recreate the whole menu at home.

As with all classes at The Wee Kitchen, this is a relaxed, sociable cooking experience. There’ll be demonstrations and guidance along the way, plenty of time to cook, and we’ll sit down together at the end to enjoy everything we’ve made.

Come on your own, bring a friend or make a date night of it. No previous cooking experience is needed, and there’s plenty here for more confident cooks to get stuck into too.

And in the spirit of an Izakaya , this class is BYOB – so bring along a few beers, a bottle of wine or whatever you fancy drinking while you cook.
