Get to know Scotland through its food, with homemade Cullen Skink, traditional Scottish Shortbread and a tasting of locally produced Scottish cheeses. A relaxed, hands-on Scottish cooking class in Edinburgh, with some local history and stories along the way.

In this hands-on Scottish cooking class in Edinburgh, we’ll spend two and a half hours making some traditional Scottish dishes, learning a bit about their history and getting to know some of the wonderful ingredients produced here in Scotland.

You’ll learn to make Cullen Skink, a rich and comforting smoked haddock soup from the fishing village of Cullen on Scotland’s northeast coast. We’ll also bake traditional Scottish Shortbread.

Alongside the cooking, we’ll enjoy a tasting of Scottish cheeses, carefully selected from local producers and served with oatcakes. It’s a chance to discover some of the fantastic cheese being made across Scotland.

You’ll prepare both dishes, working in pairs, with demonstrations and guidance along the way. We’ll also share some of the stories and traditions behind the recipes, so you’ll leave with a better understanding of Scottish food and a few new things to try making at home.

As with all classes at The Wee Kitchen, this is a relaxed, sociable cooking experience. Once the cooking is done, we’ll sit down together to enjoy everything we’ve made, along with our Scottish cheese tasting.

Whether you’re visiting Edinburgh for the first time, returning to Scotland or you’re a local wanting to get to know Scottish cooking a little better, everyone is welcome. You don’t need any previous cooking experience, and you’re very welcome to come along on your own, as a couple or with friends.

The class is BYOB, so feel free to bring something you’d like to drink while you cook. You’ll also leave with printed recipes so you can make a little taste of Scotland again when you get home.
